Off to France

sunglasses, swimsuit, sandals, lotion

God packing is so hard. I mean, unless you’re the type of person to throw your entire closet into your suitcase without thinking…then it’s hard. My gf is that type of person and its much less time consuming i’ll say! hahaha but often she ends up with a massive wad of clothes and nothing to wear (anyone else relate?) so I like to plan just a bit 😉

Heres what I planned for my France packing list! 💁

carry on essentials and travel size things

france2

As you can tell I ended up getting that black one piece swimsuit that was a June must, cant wait to bust that one out on the beach in St. Tropez. I had to beef up my carry on game since it takes 3 planes to get there, gotta make sure to have all the travel size essentials for the flight (not to mention a French Vogue to get a head start)!

I’m also SO excited about my new Lomography “St. Tropez” toy camera. The perfect purchase for anyone’s start to summer, no matter if your headed to France, Tahoe or Dolores Park. It’ll be fun to capture France through another lens though, plus I loveeee me some highly saturated COLORS! 😜 😜

With these things in hand (plus 50lbs more), I am off to France!!!!! My family and I are heading to the South, bouncing around between St. Tropez, Nice and Monaco…I know, I know, such a joke..eek. I am through the roof excited to spend 4 days with my family and see many new places… Lounging around, sipping rosé, shopping and sight seeing… and by sight seeing I mean copious amounts of people watching and drinking (dads not really into the whole “tourism” thing😁 )

Its going to be an absolutely exhausting and exhilarating 4 days that I can’t wait to share with all of you! Now about to board another plane, I can almost taste the rosé! eeeeeeeeeeee! ✈️ 🍷

Don’t get me wrong, I am obsessed with this city. However, there is also nothing that I love more than getting out and exploring on the weekends. Because San Francisco is surrounded by all kinds of different environments, it makes it so easy to drive out just a bit and feel like you’ve traveled miles and miles to a new place. Which makes me so lucky to live here….slash to live in California! THE luckiest. 🌈 🌊

One of my favorite spots to journey and feel like you’ve had a day’s long vacation is Tomales Bay Oyster Company. The (almost always) sun, the lack of cell phone coverage, the calm water and boats… it all creates such a warm vibe and separates you from your BS back home — honestly so relieving and HAPPY to be there. 😃

So as you can imagine, I was STOKED to make the trek up last weekend for 2 of my favorite homies’ birthday party, such a BLAST. An epic reunion with an excessive amount of food and booozeee – dare I mention the “slutty brownies”?! 😁 YES because how can you not mention layered chocolate chip cookies, oreos and brownies DEEEEEEEE-liciousss. 😋

Now that I am a Tomales Bay pro, here are a few DO’s and DONT’s will help YOU out if when you go:

DO:

  • Bring something to grill other than oysters, ya need some substance in that tum!
  • Make your own flavorful sauces to top the oyster (if you’re as bad-ass as the birthday girl you’ll make Sriracha butter) 👅
  • Try an oyster if you’ve never had one before. They’re fresh as ever here; it’s where i popped my oyster cherry 😜
  • Print out the directions beforehand (remember I mentioned that spotty cell coverage? Well you don’t wanna be stuck on windy Highway 1 without a guide)
  • Come prepared: coolers, plates, cups WATER + enough food/drinks for your time cause once you’re up there you’re there

DONT:

  • Wear nice shoes or sandals – too muddy and dirty!
  • Assume just cause it’s sunny it’s always hella hot. If the afternoon wind picks up in this bay you might get chilly so bring a jacket!
  • Drink and drive: book a ride up there cause this place begs for day drinking 🍻
  • Leave your sunglasses there 😩
  • Be scared of shucking! Everyone must try!

So what are you waiting for? It’s the start of summer! Get out and explore Tomales Bay 😀

Beer Booze

Beer Rec: Imperial Biscotti Break

The Facts
Style: Imperial Stout
ABV: 11.5%
Brewer: Evil Twin Brewing
Location: Brooklyn, NY

True life: I am on a huge beer kick right now. I mean a BIG one, I am actually having a beer right now. Jeez is this addiction? No, no way. 😁 This happens occasionally…usually when I binge on wine for too long then I crave beer for awhile haha. And the cycle continues…wine binge, beer binge, wine binge, beeeerrrrrrrr meeeeee!!! That time is now.

Maybe its been the cold weather in SF lately or maybe its just me being tired and needing a night cap but I am diggin the darker stouts and porters right now (and forever). This Imperial Biscotti Break by Evil Twin Brewing is the perfect way to end a meal, or drink on a chilly day. Slash helllooooo?! Kill 2 birds with 1 stone: dessert and beer all in one! #winning

Smell: Coffee, sweet chocolate (but who can’t tell that from the look of this supa dark monster?!)

Taste: Not as “biscotti” or sweet as expected. It’s a lot like a coffee porter. Actually YES, definitelyyyy coffee. Even though it pours like syrup it goes down relatively lightly with minimal carbonation… kinda bitter, dare I say hoppy? no no, not that far.. just a little bite… like the SMALLEST bite… BABY bite at the finish.

Now you must be wondering WHAT is up with the biscotti. I can here it now, “biscotti and beer, has she lost her mind??? Well I figured might as well try it, after all its on the label! 😜 Dipping the biscotti reminds of being abroad in Italy and getting Vin Santo at the end of dinner. They would serve it in a mini wine glass with a plate of biscotti, and you were supposed to dip, eat, chase, etc.

So how did this compare to a dunk in an imperial stout? A little “interesting” I’ll admit when it first hits your tongue. Your mouth is like “woahhhh, am I tasting dessert or booze?! help meeeeee.” But then it understands and your mouth accepts the sweet + alcohol combo, much like dipping in Vin Santo. Be aware: there’s definitely a strong alcohol taste in the cookie soakage so don’t expect something different or it will really throw you for a loop! The verdict on the biscotti in the beer? GOOD! I’d dip again! 😉

Key take away: If you didn’t get your total buzz fix in at dinner then grab an Imperial Biscotti Break and you’ll hit that perfect level (with an 11.5% nudge ha). Cheers! 🍻

….Wait what? We don’t get summer vacay anymore?! FML. Honestly I would’ve repeatedly flunked the 3rd grade if I knew that was coming…oh well, here we are without a break BUT June is still the start of summer time vibes and that is always a superb feeling. 🌅

So what is else cool about June? What events am I looking forward to?

  1. Negroni Week – happening this week! Every Negroni ordered donates to a particular charity and we all know you people are summer boozin’ so drink for a cause! I sure did!

  8. Net-A-Porter, Bloomingdales and Nordstrom are having big sales right now!👜 Shopping = temporary vacation
  9. New Color of Life Exhibit at California Academy of Sciences (anything surrounding color has my attention but if that’s not enough for you go on a cute date night! 💁)
  10. Backyard BBQs!!! My favorite thing in the world 🌽 🍔 🍹

Also….JUNE MUSTS:

  1. Get a hot, black one-piece swimsuit

  3. Shorter, cropped and boxy sweatshirt allows for really fun layering out the bottom! Get a cool pattern in there for summer! I adore these little dinosaurs and animals
  4. Messy bun made with 1 hair tie and 4 day old hair 😜- seriously best trick for styling, greasier the better. plus you want it to be messy…casual. So just twist up a pony tail, flatten it with your other hand and tie it up! BAM…bun.

Old Movies and Things

“WAIT…. Pause, whatttt is that awesome theater?!” We didn’t get more than a few miles down the road when I made the car turn around to go have a second look.

I love old things. The more run down, rusted, broken or even decades old the better. Well maybe I should backpedal a bit cause I looovee new things too. Like the new pair of boots that arrived on my stoop yesterday 😍  👢 😁.

BUT those boots don’t exactly have the authentic connection to the past that old items do. Stopping in Monte Rio (population: 1000), allowed me to feel frozen in time. A time with less technology, and current movies that’s for sure!

Wait actually, LET’S talk old movies…. What were your old favorites? What did you grow up watching? Childhood cartoon movies or the “classics”??

Personally, I lit UP when I saw the old Star Wars poster on the Rio Theater…def a reminder of childhood. Probs since I grew up with brothers and a dad constantly in charge of the remote, we didn’t get around to too many more of the typical “classics.” Can you say Star Wars and James Bonds on repeat!? haha. Which apparaentlyyyyy haunts you well into your 20’s cause now I’m always teased for having seen zero movies. 😩

Sighhhh…

This look also shows my love for old timeless pieces. I just got this awesome bandana sleeve in Portland a couple months ago, even though I def thought it was a leather ring at first. 😞  Oops! But nope! and how tight is that?! Never seen that before and it totally adds another dimension to wearing a bandana; making this older accessory feel new again — well… either that or like you’ve jumped into an old western film. 😜 🐎

Since it was my first time busting out this accessory I chose a more minimal outfit to let the bandana take the stage. Also something comfy and quiet to match the town vibe. But next time I think I’ll try a louder shirt of sorts. 😆

So… CLEARLY now the next logical step would be to go buy your own then sit and watch an old movie in a bandana. 🎥 😂 JK but do go try mixing the old with the new – you’ll feel simultaneously nostalgic yet daring. 😜

Who Is Falcon Mike?

Falcon Mike. Nuff said right?! Yes, it’s killer but lemme back track a bit…

Finally the day had come…the long awaited journey, and by journey I mean quick jaunt, up to Russian River. I’ve been trying to go for agesss and what better occasion than for one of my best friends birthdays!! — 🎉 Celebrations are literally the best… Are they naaaaaaattttt? (que lawyer’s voice in Serial.😂)

We were on a drinking mission and Falcon Mike was our savior. We were on a beautiful tour of Guerneville’s wineries/breweries and Falcon Mike was our kooky driver.😂 🚌 When you have a bus full of 10 ladies and the Falcon driving you around all day often times you don’t exactly carry out the agenda you imagined in your head…but you gotta be able to go with the flow. That’s what makes life exciting… is it naaaaaaat?! (ok ok seriously I’m done now haha).

The highlight was most def this beautiful winery, I mean…look at it. THAT baaarrrrnn! AND with live music?! Seriously though, it does not get better than that combo. Aside from the winery being completely organic (so cool), another totally nuts fact is that the old rustic structure has become a full blown BAT CAVE and yes, they circle like mad at night. 😯

My other favorite stop was the ultra-local joint, Stumptown Brewery, but prob more for the environment than the beer. Small but perfect in its existence with a sunny back patio looking over the river. Love 😍. Since it is small they only had a few house-made brews but I would say you come more for the local experience than the award winning beer.

✌️ All in all – what a phenomenal day made possible by rad chicks and a rad….man. So if you’re in Guerneville/ Russian River and need a lift? He. Is. Your. Guy.

Ahhhhh lastly just a fun tip about this vest… Yes it is thrifted but no that does not mean you can’t find a similar look. If you find an awesome printed/thrift shirt (usually mens) and like the style but GASP, it’s too big!! Ha well don’t fret, just cut the sleeves off! No one will know the wiser. It’s when u have huge sleeves that you look like you’re drowning 😉

Kicking off the beer series today! I figured it fitting since I am going to be drinking lots of beer this weekend. Know where I’m going yet? Maybe? Well you’ll find out soon enough 😉

What better way to start than to give props to a local brewery, The Marin Brewing Company. I haven’t been there yet but I have had their beers and the trip is definitely on my list.

I JUST swooped up this 3 Flowers IPA because I found out it was bottled 10 days ago and I couldn’t resist. YES, 10 DAYS AGO. Is that a joke? How fresh is that?! Well let me tell you, the answer is ….FRESH. This is one of the lightest IPAs I have ever had. Not too hoppy which is perfect for people that think they don’t like IPAs. On a 1-10 scale of hops/bitterness I would give it a 3. Its also very floral and slightly citrusy (if you look for it). I personally prefer IPAs in the winter and am over them by summertime but this IPA I could drink alllll summer long – its actually that light and smooth. 👌

FUN FACT! Hops are female flowers used mainly for stability and flavoring in beer, to which they impart a bitter, tangy flavor. In this beer the “3 flowers” refers to the 3 hops flowers used to create this delicious brew: Citra, Cascade, and Chinook. 🌼

Do me a favor and go get this beer ASAP. Technically it’ll be good for about 3 months before aging but isn’t it just 10 times cooler to drink it 10 days after? um, YES. Slash did you see the “live ale” label on the bottle? How cool is that!

Alright! I’m off to start the weekend and you should too! Cheers!!  🍻 😀
