Happy 4th of July!

fourth of july outfit

I don’t have much to say besides, HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE!!!!! 🇺🇸 🍻 🎉

My family and I  (cousins, grandparents… the whole shebang) are always in Lake Tahoe for the Fourth. Family tradition and I ain’t complainin’ 😀 Unfortunately today rained and thunder showered, first time on the 4th of July in at least 20 years! But that didn’t stop the fun, obviously. Actually the lightening was epic to watch across the lake…we’re talkin FAT bolts.  Luckily enough the rain has cleared and we can continue enjoying the outdoors, sans-sun…. oh well!

Some things I look forward to on this glorioussss holiday:

  1. No work!! 😝
  2. Lake Tahoe, because its actually the best place on earth 💙
  3. Corn-hole with beer in hand (seriously, after I finish writing this that is the FIRST thing I’m doing) 👌 🍺
  4. My grandma’s choice of 4th of July wear for the day. Will it be the oversized vintage tee with american flag cartoon on the front? Or the Hawaiian print button up with blue velvet leggings? Or maybe the american flag scrunchie this year! Oh wait…just saw her… it’s a patchwork red, white and blue button up. Classic g-ma.
  5. Making my classic margaritas for the entire family. A tradition I got them hooked on last year 👍 👍 (someone had to step it up around here haha) 🍹 🍹 🍹
  6. The big firework show in Tahoe City and we get to watch from the longest pier in Lake Tahoe 🎆 😀
  7. Berry cobbler, cobbler and MORE COBBLER!!! 😋

I also love bustin out this romper for this day…every year…just kidding not EVERY year, but maybe every year 😉 That’s not by any means to say it’s not wearable at other times. I think it’s so cute ALL summer long. Lightweight, comfortable, easy to throw on and look good. Perfect for any beach day or sunny day, park day – you name it! But pairing it with white accents (sandals and glasses) and a boater hat really completed the look for this particular holiday. Getting that classic American feel going.

Anyway, gotta go play that corn-hole for realllllllllll now. Hope everyone is having a BLAST today! Happy 4th! Go America!!! 💥🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸

Can You Judge a Look by its Beer?

Took a little jaunt over to Haight St the other day with my babe to run a few errands (helloooo Goorin Bros 👍). Followed by this delicious beer back at home. A “reward” for a day out of the house? 😝 Anyways…

Maybe you don’t know it yet but there IS a correlation between drink choice and style. Well clearly I think so haha, which is why I want to start these beer and outfit pairings. 🍻  & 👕 👖

Humor me for a sec… you wake up, you’re feeling a certain way and your mood is determined. The weather has its influences and the day’s events ahead have its influences. All things factored in, you go about picking out your outfit that gives off a certain vibe for the day. Later on, you’re scoping out a yummy beer….and here I’d like to bet that you pick it out given all the same criteria. SO THERE – proven. 😉

Same goes for this outfit and this beer – dark on the outside light on the inside. It was a typical SF day 💨⛅️💨 so layers clearly a must. Feeling lazy and craving comfortable clothes (hence the joggers), the dark beer made me feel cozy at home after braving the wind. BUT remember, it’s still summer/daytime so a porter isn’t quite right.

The La Folie Sour Brown Ale was perfection because the sour taste is still light and refreshing for a summer day but the color makes you want to be inside. Plus the red hat and Keith Haring design add the perfect touch of youth and playfulness to balance the look….. just like balancing the beer in color and flavor. Hard-edge outside but fun and light inside? Yup, done and done! Outfit ✔️, beer ✔️ and Kendall is satisfied. 😊

I’m in dire need of a hump-day beer, how about you??

  1. Because I’m bummed after crippling myself at Pride aka can’t show you guys any of my fav Pride looks because I was too busy in the ER and bandaged, ughhh. 😥
  2. Because it’s the start of  July today aka the REAL start of summer so we need a refreshing cheers, duh
  3. Because it’s been a stressful day at work, a Wednesday, and all I can think about is the holiday weekend ahead! (Dear beer, get me there. Thanks 👍)

La Folie from New Belgium’s Lips of Faith Series is EPIC (also considered one of the best sours around!)- and the perfect way to start July because while it looks dark it’s actuallllly quite light and refreshing. It was aged in french oak barrels (formerly used in wine production) for 1 to 3 years before bottling as a ripe sour. I am a big fan, and I mean BIG fan of beers that have been aged in wine barrels. Even my girlfriend who doesn’t like beer, defaults to sour brown ales when given the choice – it’s the only beer she likes! A.K.A – TRY THIS BEER! haha. Unless of course you don’t like sours, then definitely don’t… cause its mouth puckering. 😲

TASTE TEST: I could smell the dark sour, reminiscent of cherries, right out of the bottle. Minimally carbonated, no foam on pour. Pouring at a deep mahogany color. This beer is a sharp sour, full of ripe plum-skin, green apple and cherry notes.🍏🍒 Like I said, it’s not a beer for non-sour drinkers as it’s probably a 8 or 9 on the sour scale BUT it does still have a smooth finish. 😋

So why is this a good beer for now? Perfect for a cloudy summer day (which we all know happens often here) cause refreshing but still dark in color giving you that comfort with clouds… makes you want to lounge around. Or is it playful? I kinda want to grab my baseball cap and frolic around after a glass of this.

SPEAKING of baseball caps…this will be the first installment of a beer & looks tag team duo! Because obviously you can match your beer to your outfit!!!😜 So the baseball cap is about to reveal the rest of the look by the end of the week, stay tuned party people!! CHEERS! 🍻  + 👕 👖 =  😎

Wrapping up my time in France! Here is a photo diary of some of my favorite moments from the trip. It was an absolutely faaaaaaabulous week spent…✨ Yes, I do believe fabulous is the perfect word…and I would KILL to go back. Immediately.

Here’s 10 things I learned in the Côte d’Azur:

  1. You can sleep when you’re dead, gotta power through that jet-lag like nobody’s business if you want to maximize shopping time 💁
  2. Nikki Beach = heaven. They had the best DJ around for lounge house music, literally every song was gold
  3. Always, and I mean always, always, ALWAYS have a glass of rosé in your hand 🍷
  4. The rosé does NOT taste as good as home, what do those Frenchmen put in that?! 🙌 Seriously though, it’s as light as water. Um wait..so WHY did I not bring a bottle home?! ugh…fail
  5. Buy every wide brim floppy hat you see
  6. Never underestimate the power of a black one piece swimsuit
  7. Yes – the macaroons are better than they are at home
  8. Dad lovessss Aperol spritz. Aperol spritz CAN be a mans drink 😜
  9. Mini backpacks are a MUST for comfortably carrying your stuff all day trekking around the city
  10. Act fancy – always 💎 💎

 TAKE ME BACKKKKKKKKKKK 😭😭😭

Gunna have to interrupt this France flow for a brief yet crucial announcement that is: SF PRIDE THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!! 🌈 🌈 🌈 🌈 🌈 (which also means I get to excessively use my favorite emojiii!) 🌈 🌈 🌈  🌈 🌈

Who’s ready? are you READY? like really really ready?!?!?!?!? Search deep down…you can’t actually be fully ready yet…never fear! Kendall’s here! 😛

I’ll be posting my favorite Pride day/night looks next week but I wanted to do a pre-pride post so that you guys know all the coolest Pride events plus the essentials to make them a success! Here’s whats on my list!

EVENTS:

Thursday:

  1. CA of Sciences PRIDE Nightlife – better than the average nightlife because of the different DJs on different levels plus a huge dance floor, seasonal craft cocktails and BEST of all, a full-outttt drag performance with costume contest and backup dancers! 🙊
  2. Just because the Lexington closed doesn’t mean we can’t still have the usual Lex Kick-off Pride Party!!! This year at Virgil’s (a sick mission bar with back patio) should be a fantastic, casual way to start the weekend 🍻
  3. (and my favorite event of all) HORSE MEAT DISCO. These fierce queens are coming to Mighty to throw down the party of the year. Imagine Donna Summer or Missy Elliott remixed to house music and you’ve got these DJs. My top 3 in the world for sure and when they come to SF…. I burst 😵 🎶

Friday:

  1. 😴 😴 😴
  2. 💦 💧 💦
  3. 📺📺📺

Saturday:

  1. You can head to the Civic Center for gay mayhem, company tents and variety of dance stages if you want butttt…..
  2. Dolores Park is where it’s AT! People swarm this park starting around 11am, so get there early to claim a good spot – plus the new half is open now! 😀 There’s usually fun prize tents, DJs, jello shots and a wholeeeeee lot of drunk happy people 😎 😄 😄
  3. Mosey up from the park to the Castro by 5 for the PINKKKK PARTYYYYY. 🎉  This is the ‘block party’ of the year with the entire Castro shut down to cars and various outdoor DJ stages dispersed. Go in and out of bars as you please (mind you, they are usually packed) but getting a bottle and partying in the street is A-OK by me. 👌

Sunday:

  1. Juanita Mores Pride Party – been going to this for years and it never fails to disappoint, but how could you at a double decker outdoor bar? Decorations are full out, dancers are full out and people are FULL out. But thats what you would expect from Juanita right?! (For those that don’t know, Juanita More is the queen of queeeeens 👑 👑 and she throws a party to match! Literally I’m such a huge fan I have a pair of her heels on my bookshelf 😬 LOL)
  2. Incase you want to be poolside… Chambers at the Phoenix Hotel always throws an epic Pride party with chill, tropical summer vibes and BBQ!
  3. Hard French Pride (a classic goodie) or Honey Sound Systems is sure to flood with shirtless men and pop off at Mighty Sunday night.
  4. And don’t forget, the Pride Parade is Sunday morning starting at 10am so if you can muster up the energy go support those participating! (at Civic Center)

polaroid, fanny pack, sunglasses, shot glass, rainbow, evian, discoball

PRIDE ESSENTIALS

  1. Need an eye opener after a DAY at Dolores? A face “pick me up” before heading up the hill to the Pink Party? Wake up! Splash. Refresh…This will save you.
  2. Polaroid camera for instant snapshots of your shenanigans, because duh
  3. A proper party aka big disco ball to dance under and an over-the-top outfit to go with it! You can never be toooo dressed given the drag queens walking around so better be on point for the partayy
  4. Booze booze and more booze
  5. Positive attitude!! There is NOTHING to be sad at for pride. Lose your friends? Make new ones! Get in a drunk fight with the lover? Don’t! Put it behind you ASAP! Run out of liquor? We’re in SF they sell it at every corner! So HAVE A FUN WEEKEND!
  6. Sunglasses – a must whether it’s to hide your loopy eyes or block from sun, the cheaper the better cause they always get lost!!
  7. “To-go” booze pouch
  8. Nifty (and preferably flashy) fanny pack for hands free fun allllll weekend long!

For the love of god if you have a rainbow flag hang it out of your window! or up anywhere for that matter! I don’t care! Tie it around your neck like a cape and be a gay super hero, whatever! Just bust it out! 😍

St. Tropez

Pantones of the Post

St. Tropez, nuff said. I think I’ll just stop here. You guys probably can imagine right?! 😜

Let me put it this way, it was one jaw dropping moment after the next…You sort of have this idea of St. Tropez in your head from the media, the imaginable glam, the celebrities etc. And believe it or not, that’s actually a good thing! I feel like it creates this inhibition in a way, allowing you to play a part that you don’t typically get to at home.

And it’s a funnnnnnnnn part to play haha. If tons of celebs and movie stars go here then why not pretend you’re one of them?! Given a big enough hat and pair of sunglasses, well…lets just say, people make assumptions 😂 💁

Cut to scene: me prancing down the small shopping alleys of the town of St. Tropez in this massive hat and wait… *cue Glamorous* (best believe I know every word to that jam. Ev-er-y word. Thank you high school HA 😁) … back to prancing… in the humid summer air, glass of wine deep, shopping bag in hand and life is BEYOND.

Anyway, I do like assimilating to different cultures, blending in with the attire/vibe around you. I think I’ve mentioned this before? And probably will mention it a few times more (ha! that rhymes). But really, whether it be baggy textiles in Guatemala or a big bitchin’ hat and tiny summer dress in St. Tropez… that’s how I do, dress the part! Isn’t everything more fun that way? Like why would you show up to a costume party in a terrible costume? So NOT as fun.

And even though this has nothing to do with St. Tropez, I do want to mention where I found such FABULOUS clothes. Joy Venturini Bianchi – a San Francisco fashion icon – has a treasure chest (and I mean houses fullllll) of vintage couture clothing. Known as the Helpers House of Couture, this treasure chest donates all proceeds to help the developmentally disabled. So even though the look is easy enough to mimic with a short, bright dress and big floppy hat, it’s SO much more fun (and charitable) shopping from Joy’s closet – go take a peak sometime!

Bottom line…If I ever go missing, look in St. Tropez. 🌴⛵️

Lounging Around Nikki Beach

france beach style

shrimp, lounge beds, pineapple hookah pink romper gold sandals france6 rose wine and champagne casual beach style south of france beachwear

Pantones of the Postst tropez pantones

I’m currently sitting on my couch in my “Nikki Beach” t-shirt coverup and wondering WHY I ever left there in the first place? :( Can you say withdrawals?! All I want to be horizontal with a glass of rosé again, in the sun. K, thanks bye.

I must say, we hit this first day in France REALLY hard. After traveling for almost 24 hours we finally arrive in St Tropez, landing in a field of rose (literally). Then whisked off to the hotel to change in “exactly 42 seconds” as my dad likes to say for a big seaside lunch at Club 55. And what was easy to throw on in 42 seconds? A jumpsuit!! 😜 I am a big fan of jumpsuits because they make you instantly look well-dressed and require minimal thought slash outfit making on your part, making them the perfect target when you’re in a rush to look nice. This one I particularly love for France because of the pattern and just spring/summer in general with the pink and creme palette, sleeveless cut and light silk fabric.

Please note that prior to the lunch rez we already managed to do a lap around the town of St. Tropez and suck down a bottle of rosé at an outdoor cafe, living that euro life within minutes. 🙌 😍 🍷

Post a seafood stacked lunch at Club 55 (freshest fish EVER) the crew headed to Nikki Beach, the scene of the party SCENE in St Tropez. Went here twice, this day being cloudier and windier than the next but that did NOT stop the fun! Bring on the champagne, the rosé and the coffee drinks – a MUST for our lack of time dedicated to sleeping.

Nikki Beach is a pretty wild place, hard to fully describe here and best experienced, but I will say a few things to give you a glimpse. When you’re lying down on one of those white beds, staring up into the sun, listening to the best house music remixes you’ve ever heard and sipping on a glass of rosé champagne, there is nothing left to do besides shed tears of joy (which I did haha). GOD vacation feels gooooooood!!!

Drink after drink, fresh pineapple hookahs aflame, and my brothers get tossed into costumes and paraded around the pool carrying magnum sparkling bottles of champagne…… and that is Nikki Beach (on a calm day). I could do this everyday. Actually though, ev-er-y-DAY 😁 😁

After a brief yet intoxicated shopping moment back in town LOL my whole family accidentally took a nap so long we missed dinner (faillll) but that doesn’t stop us from getting up and going out at 1:30AM to the club under Hotel Byblos where we’re staying; which apparently is like one of THE clubs to go in St. Tropez. So even though we missed dinner, all-in-all the Chases crushed France, Day 1. 💥😂
