I’m on the Edge

Pantones of the Post

I’m on the edge!… of gothyyyy. 😜JK – But some of you might be thinking “woahhhh, wait… she’s in all black? what happened to her colorful vibes? I don’t get it?!?!?!?” Well hush hush!

I’m here to tell you that just like any other fashion lover, I too have my all black moments – and revel in them! 😱 The all black look is too harsh for me during summer, but come fall and winter best belieeeeve I’m not scared to go for it! Sometimes it’s what I want and sometimes it’s not but I clearly want to be taken seriously today, so back off!!! (just kidding, please let’s be friends) But, my mood def goes instant ‘badass chick’ when the black armor goes on. 🔥💎🔥

Even more unexpected is pairing this pleated skirt with a canvas vest and moto boots. Pleated skirts are one of this seasons (arguably this years) biggest trends. Being a non girly girl, I decided to edge up the pleats with some leather buckled boots. I implore you to be unexpected! Style your pleated midi or maxi with chunky boots for some more fashion “street cred.” ⚡️

Try it once. Do it if you dare! Some of you may dress in most/all black everyday so your which is fine, but if you are like me and don’t typically gravitate towards such a dark outfit every morning then give it a go! See if it makes you feel any different! Your clothes are the armor in which you face the world and sometimes you just need an extra dose of UMPH that day. 👊👊

WARNING: All black looks may cause you to feel more serious, sexy, powerful, edgy, hard, intelligent, or mysterious. Proceed with caution. 😉

The Facts
Style: Sour/Saison
ABV: 6.9%
Brewer: Sudwerk Brewing Co
Location: Davis, CA

True life: I’m addicted to THIS beer.🙌 🙌 🙌 Well, you tell me….This is actually the 5th bottle I’ve bought within a week, so am I?! 😁

My point is, it’s THAT good. It’s one of the best sour beers, slash best all around beers I have had in months. The sour saison blend softens the sour properties a bit adding some of that lovely earthy taste of saisons. Or maybe its extra delicious from being barrel-aged in locally sourced Grenache and petite Syrah wine barrels.

TASTE TEST: large head on pour and a gorgeous golden yellow color, reminiscent of California fields. citrus notes, ripe fruits. green grape smell…and tastes a bit like a ripe green grape. stone fruits – hints of tart plum. When it first hits your lips theres a strong lemon sensation, followed by more complex farmy flavors. Hops on smell but not on taste.

Perfect amount of flavor, alcohol level and basically a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ experience!

This beer is exclusively sold at Healthy Spirits SF so go grab one before they sell out! I PROMISE its worth it. In the words of Sudwerk, “Enjoy with good company and savor the fünke! Prost!” 😛🍻

Day Night Style

One Shirt, Two Ways

Pantones of the Post

This outfit I wore to the SF Mead Co tasting and then in a 5 minute drive by of home had to throw something on at the speed of light for dinner and a show. This is a very typical experience for so many of us so I’m going to throw a few tips your way to help you tackle the sitch. 👌👌

SO lets state the obvious – this shirt is loud and graphic and amazing… but, how did I style it for both day and night?

DAY: I brought down the harshness of the jagged pattern with a more girly, casual, hippie inspired vibe. The open crocheted sweater and suede skirt bring softness to the look, more appropriate for daytime. Seize the day with drapey lines and more flowy pieces to achieve that laid-back, casual.

*Important! Lots of time it can all boil down to shoe choice! Dress your look down for daytime with light colored booties or sneakers…but throw on flashy oxfords/brogues, black leather boots or strappy high heels and you’ve transformed to “night ready.”

NIGHT: My go-to for quick night looks is always something flashy and/or pattern mixing (which can be intimidating if you aren’t used to it but practice makes perfect, you just have to go with your gut – we’ll tackle more on this subject later). In this case, pairing the shirt with another graphic element – the striped pant – made this a much stronger, bolder, eye-catching outfit, now night ready. Also…metallic accents are never bad #shineygoldforlife 😜

……..Just remember if it looks and feels soft, chances are it’s a great daytime choice. You want to be bold at night (gotta stand out in the bar/club somehow right?!😉) so try mixing unexpected patterns with a flashier shoe and BAM you’re set for your evening out. 💃💃💃

The SF Mead Company

Pantones of the PostPantone color palette

This weekend I FINALLY checked something off the “fun to-do” list which was to visit the SF Mead Company for one of their Saturday tours and tastings! 💃

It was a bit of a drive out to Bayview-Hunter Point area where the factory is (and a bit sketch) but once inside the vibe was so inviting and fun. You could tell everyone there was there to have a great time and drink lotssss of mead! SO, incase you didn’t know mead is 1 part fermented honey and 2 parts water; sometimes with added fruit, spices, hops, or grains for different flavor profiles. 🍯🍎🍯🍷

It’s apparent when you walk into their Craigslist digs that, Oron and Sarah have a real passion for producing this alcohol, which for them usually runs about 14% ABV in each bottle. They have MAD love for what they do and it shows in every sip.

I was thoroughly impressed by each of the 8 meads we tried because they were all smooth and…ready for it?!………not. too. sweet!!! 😛👏👏 Even the “sweet” ones like the Apple Pie and Chocolate Raspberry still had a nice dryness to them, making them totally acceptable for more than a few sips. To quote Sarah, “sweet makes me want to barf,” 😂😂 I couldn’t agree more, and thankfully your meads do uphold that! (Although, the slight sweetness of the Apple Pie will come in hand later when I show you all a mead cocktail, coming up next week! 😃👍)

Bottom line is, you gotta go. Mead will be generously poured…lots of laughs to be had….you get to taste a young, unfiltered mead directly from the vat (super YUM) and ones that aren’t yet bottled out on the market….learn about the oldest alcohol production on earth and experience the love and hard work that goes into building a business from the ground up. 👊

Verdict:  I would go back! 😊

Show Review: Rufus Du Sol

Rufus Du Sol performing at Mezzanine SF

rufus3-2 rufus1

Pantones of the Post

Disclaimer: I am not a music writer nor do I review bands so don’t expect transcendence, expect plain english haha.

On Saturday I went to see Rufus Du Sol at the Mezzanine. Saw them last year but had to come back for second helpings cause they are just so damn great!!! 😍

It’s nothing but happiness that night in the Mezz – completely packed I might add (so I guess a few more people have discovered them since last year haha) but you BET I squeezed my way closer to the stage. I mean, being in the back is just unacceptable! It was so worth it, they are SUCH a blassssttttttt.

I love Rufus because they have that electronic, tropical house but deeper, easy going, listen anytime anywhere vibe. I haven’t found a situation when I don’t want to listen to them jam. They constantly put me at ease. My favorite part about their performance is that they are actually LIVE. Yes there is a drummer and singer (not just singer over computer generated beat), which from listening to their music you may  not expect them to whip out at such a live show. 👏👏👏

Beers were flowing, I was jumping, A LOT… So much my shirt buttons kept coming undone! LOL 🍻😳  But best of all had a fat smile on the entire time because I was listening to the most joyous music with some of my best friends, and that is the mark of a GREAT night…Well, that and curly fries on the backend. 😜 The encore was def the highlight – brought the best ones and threw it DOWN. Wooooooo!

Rather than putting some loud, fuzzy video clip of peoples hands bouncing in the air I decided to link to a playlist full of their songs so you get the idea :) Enjoy! DANCE!!! 👯👯

Style: Super Dry Cider
ABV: 6.9%
Brewer: 101 Cider House
Location: Los Angeles, CA

Sippin’ Sundays Cider Day! Or maybe I just want something easy to drink since I am prettyyyy hungover, well maybe not so much hungover as I am completely deaf from the show I went to last night. 😬

Besides loving that this cider is named after the freeway that’s connected me to every point in my California life 🚗 😎, it has a great balance of flavors. Made from a blend of american cider apples and quince, this cider is wildly fermented, and then twice hopped – first with a hops blend then with 100% Citra hops. Also all natural, unpasteurized, unfiltered, naturally sparkling – even probiotic!! 👍👍

TASTE TEST: Ok let’s call it out, it looks a bit like pee, no? haha. pretty opaque though and definitely see some sediment swirling around in there. Such a strong fruity smell, I can smell pineapple from feet away (prob from the fragrant quince). Pineapple, farmhouse, bubblegum, orange, polished wood smell. Apples first on taste (obvi). Very dry, with proper level of carbonation. Citrus on citrus..on citrus notes. 🍋 Orange sediment resting at bottom of glass. Lemon, still tropical fruity-ish and a very slight hops quality. Not overpowering hops at all.

They say IPC is the cider for IPA lovers because of the hops. I would say it’s not thatttt hoppy so don’t run away if you don’t like IPAs because you can still easily drink this bottle. If anything the slight hops give it a nice bitterness so the cider isn’t sweet; of course, there are lots of other factors making it not too sweet, like the dryness. 😋

Spread the California love and easy drinking on this cute but cloudy Sippin’ Sunday! Cheers.

Sustainable Fashion, Part 1

selects_1105

So…what IS sustainable fashion??

This week I had the pleasure of attending a panel discussion at The Battery on this topic, and even the panelists admitted to googling it before taking the stage since the range of meaning is so vast! Key is focusing on one aspect slightly stronger than others. Do you value using locally sourced materials? What about proper working conditions for employees? Or a real craft maker’s hands constructing your garment? Supporting the foundation of real clothing construction over fast fashion? The demand for reusable or recycled materials? …The list goes ON and onnnnnn!

The panel really inspired me and challenged me to consider conscious shopping more than I was before!! 👍 Since there is SO much out there (and I collected SO many clothing items) I’ve decided to spread out the “do good” facts and shopping links over a few posts that will happen throughout November, this being the first. 😄😄

Starting out with a more ‘classic’ ensemble of items, many of which are from Everlane, an SF based clothing line that lives by “radical transparency.” Also highlighting Cuyana, one of the panelist actually, that radiate the message of  “fewer, better things” anddd even a couple pairs of Adriano Goldschmied jeans, because surprise! Who knew, they are actually an environmentally friendly company!

  1. Cuyana canvas and leather “overnight bag”
  2. Everlane ivory, cashmere turtleneck
  3. AG Jeans sun-bleached, patched and destroyed denim
  4. Helpsy gold horizontal bar necklace
  5. Toms black leather booties
  6. Toms peach “belluve” sunglasses
  7. Warby Parker clear glasses frames
  8. Joshuvela canvas and leather dopp kit bag
  9. Everlane black wool overcoat
  10. Matt & Nat black leather “doctor” bag
  11. Cuyana 100% Scottish cashmere, burgundy scarf
  12. AG Jeans – “Ag-ed Vintage” label, patchwork denim
  13. Everlane striped heavyweight, long sleeve tee
  14. Everlane 100% Italian leather modern loafer
  15. Toms matte black sunglasses
  16. Cuyana gathered silk maroon shirtdress

If you like shopping (duh) and you also like being environmentally aware (hopefully duh) and more conscious about the quality of your purchases (hopefully duh again) than check back at the end of each week this month for more links to sustainably stock your wardrobe!!
